Lehneis Orthotics and Prosthetics Associates, Ltd. is committed to fitting our patients with prosthetic devices that best suit their lifestyles and goals. Each individual has unique needs regarding function, durability, comfort and appearance of a prosthesis. Lehneis' professional staff fits and fabricates a wide variety of both upper and lower limb devices.
Lehneis was the first prosthetics and orthotics company in the New York Metropolitan - Long Island area to use computer-aided design and manufacturing (CAD/CAM) to produce precision fit prostheses. The process can be completed in as little as 3 hours. The digitized measurements can be replicated over and over to create an exact copy of the first artificial limb produced for our patient. Each patient's file is stored on our computers and easily retrieved for future reference.
CAD/CAM technology translates to higher levels of fit and function for our patients. The digitizer in the CAD/CAM system takes thousands of measurements that provide a three-dimensional model on the screen. Changes and modifications are made to the model by the prosthetist so that the prosthetic device is fine tuned before the custom socket for the amputated limb is made.
The C-Leg by Otto Bock, a computer microchip controlled hydraulic knee and shin system enables patients to walk with varied cadence, descend stairs foot over foot, and walk inclines or declines without stumbling. It is a remarkable technology for appropriate candidates.
Our practitioners are experienced with fabricating and fitting a wide variety of prostheses, ranging from the most basic to the most technologically advanced. In recent years, myoelectric upper limbs have become more durable, cosmetically enhanced and functional. Because of the added benefits, our prosthetists are now offering this technology to our patients. With the myoelectric upper limbs, the patient has a complete range of motion, and the ability to open and close the hand without awkward cable driven units. While the myoelectric upper limb devices are not for every patient, a broader spectrum of patients are now candidates for myoelectric upper limbs. Few patients should be ruled out without careful consideration.
We offer ultra-lightweight materials that make lower limb prostheses lighter and more durable than ever. Lehneis uses many types of composite materials and components to suit the different needs and lifestyles of the patient. Energy storing feet that mimic the capabilities of the natural foot, and hydraulic and lightweight knee-shin components are widely used to gain the most benefit from the individual's device.
